Indian Chief 1800 gehört zu einer Gruppe von Motorrädern, die einen elektrischen Anlasser anstelle des typischen Kickstarters verwenden. Dank eines kleinen Gleichstrommotors können Sie den Motor des Motorrads mit einem Knopfdruck am Lenker anlassen, anstatt mit Muskelkraft auf das Pedal zu treten. Die nötige Kraft wird dabei durch einen elektrischen Strom erzeugt, der dem Mechanismus von der Batterie zugeführt wird. Als elektrisches System hat ein solcher Anlasser allerdings auch seine Grenzen. Denken Sie daran, den Anlasser vor Beschädigungen und äußeren Einflüssen zu schützen. Noch wichtiger sind die Dichtheit des Systems und ein ausreichender Schutz des Innenraums vor Schmutz oder Feuchtigkeit. Schließlich ist auch auf die Bauteile zu achten, die den Anlasser mit dem Motor verbinden, vor allem auf den Blindstopfen. Dank ihm überträgt der Indian Chief 1800 die Kraft des bereits laufenden Motors nicht auf den Anlasser. Die entsprechenden Zahnkränze hingegen übertragen die Kraft des Anlassers auf das Rad. Der Ausfall eines dieser Ritzel kann nicht nur das Starten des Motors erschweren, sondern auch zu schweren Schäden am Anlasser und am Antrieb führen.
