Um die Hin- und Herbewegung des Kolbens in die spezifische Bewegung der Pleuelstange umzuwandeln, werden eng aufeinander abgestimmte Lager zur Verbindung der Polaris Indy 400-Komponenten verwendet. Die Kolbenbolzenlager und -buchsen ermöglichen die verlustfreie Drehung der Pleuelstangen und verhindern gleichzeitig jede andere Bewegung der Pleuelstange gegenüber dem Kolbenbolzen. Diese Buchsen und Kolbenbolzenlager müssen in der Lage sein, hohen und wechselnden Kräften und Vibrationen standzuhalten. Eine Beschädigung oder Abnutzung der Pleuelstange behindert die Bewegung der Pleuelstange oder lockert das Gelenk, was katastrophale Folgen für den Motor hat. Aus denselben Gründen verlangt Polaris Indy 400, dass die Kolbenbolzenbuchse und das Lager sorgfältig eingebaut und bei Beschädigung ausgetauscht werden.
